The Unit Secretary will serve as a solid contributor to the daily operation of the nursing unit, handling clerical and administrative tasks, multitasking, and managing time effectively. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Nurse Manager, the ideal candidate will promote an organized and positive culture while delivering the highest standards of excellence in service. Salary and Benefits Base pay range: $16.94 per – $24.50 per hour.
Salary Disclosure Statement: The salary mentioned above reflects the potential base pay range for this role. Bonuses or other incentives (if applicable) are offered separately and paid pursuant to the relevant program schedule. All employment offers will consider such factors as overall experience, job-related qualifications, location, certifications/training, etc.
Responsibilities
Assist residents, visitors and staff as appropriate.
Answer all incoming calls in a courteous manner, identifying self and Unit.
Keep nurses informed about admissions/discharges and resident-related problems.
Inform front office of resident activity.
Assemble and organize charts for new resident admissions; reinforce pages and maintain proper chart order.
File all lab results, X‑ray reports, etc. in chart accurately daily.
On a weekly basis, perform routine chart checks for adequacy of chart forms, i.e., nurse’s notes.
Prepare discharge charts and arrange for disposition of belongings of discharged and deceased residents.
Record resident data such as vital signs and weight.
Maintain files for laboratory data.
Schedule appointments for diagnostic, lab services and therapeutic activities.
Maintain a neat, orderly and safe work area, i.e., desk, charts, corridor.
Report malfunctioning equipment and other safety hazards to charge nurse and maintenance.
Keep unit stocked with medical and office supplies to meet unit needs.
Maintain resident identification system, i.e., tags on door, at bedside, resident arm band.
Abide by the standards identified in FutureCare’s Statement of Corporate Ethics and the Corporate Compliance Plan.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Active GNA certification highly preferred.
One or more years experience in a skilled nursing facility a plus.
Previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to use discretion in handling confidential information.
Ability to interact with others in a considerate, helpful, courteous manner.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication with all facility staff, residents and visiting family members.
Must be professional and present a neat appearance in appropriate dress and identification at all times.
