Primary Purpose Manage transmission line and substation projects, leading cross‑functional teams across multiple disciplines and operating areas, including contract resources. Responsible for scope, schedule, budget and safety performance on projects ranging from $250K to $15M. May also manage business initiative projects with limited resources. Position may require extended hours during emergencies.
Primary Duties
Overall project performance for major transmission, substation construction, new technology programs, and organizational initiatives (25%).
Manage project costs, schedule, and scope, including recovery plans to stay within approved limits (20%).
Interface with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate project requirements (15%).
Communicate with sponsors and key stakeholders, including executive-level presentations (10%).
Maintain good relationships among project team, line managers, and interfacing organizations (10%).
Coach and lead team members to ensure completion of assigned tasks (10%).
Identify and obtain project team resources (5%).
Ensure team members understand their responsibilities (5%).
Job Scope The Project Manager is an individual contributor accountable for project budgets, team performance, and strategic planning. Responsibilities also include construction of business cases, budgetary approvals, scheduling, requirements engineering, design/engineering tasks, vegetation management reviews, project reporting, financial analysis, major equipment procurement, environmental analysis, real estate and relationship management, quality assurance, and change management.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field and 4‑7 years of relevant project management experience, or high school diploma and 6‑9 years of experience.
Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or achieve CAPM within two years (PMP certification fulfills).
Documented success at managing projects.
Ability to work independently and as a team leader, handling conflicting priorities.
Strong independent judgment skills.
Strong interpersonal and time‑management skills.
Valid driver's license and access to an automobile.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in engineering, advanced technical degree, or Business Administration.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Professional Engineer License.
Experience or knowledge in utility design/planning/construction or IT.
Utility experience with substation and transmission line projects.
