Overview
At HNTB, we have been delivering solutions for the largest, most complex infrastructure projects in the United States for over a century. This opportunity is to serve as the location leader for our Overland Park, Kansas office within the Central States Office. The role reports to the Central States Office Director of Business Development and is a member of the Office Leadership Team.
The location leader oversees the Overland Park geographic location and HNTB’s Kansas operations statewide. Responsibilities include market and business development; quality and technical delivery; client, civic and community relationships; government relations; and leadership and staff coordination to operate within the established goals and budgets for the Central States Office.
Additionally, the location leader leads the development and execution of Kansas-focused client programs, pursuits, and projects, building and maintaining relevant client relationships with the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Turnpike Authority, city and county municipal clients, and the HNTB Client Service Teams.
Responsibilities
Oversee market and business development; client and government relations; brand building and industry, civic, university and community engagement; staff sourcing, recruiting and retention; and staff and culture development within the office.
Serve as the local “face” and key point of contact for HNTB leadership in the geographic location.
Drive the growth and vision for the geographic location—ownership over location’s brand, sales, revenue, FTEs, industry/clients/civic/university/community engagement, government relations, strategic planning and implementation.
Focus on growing all disciplines that provide strong growth opportunities for the location, regardless of technical background.
Engage in oversight or management of client programs, pursuits and project management activities for Mega and Super Mega projects, acting as project manager or pursuit champion as needed.
Coordinate strategy and initiatives in the market, including best practices and leading client service teams relevant to the location.
Source, recruit and retain talent in partnership with office discipline leaders; coach, mentor and advocate for all location staff.
Facilitate location workshare needs in coordination with Group Directors, Department Managers and Section Managers.
Ensure 4for4 delivery and budget performance for the location in partnership with discipline leaders.
Assist with the development and implementation of the office group’s strategic plan and operating budget.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Planning or related field and 12 years of practical experience, including 4 years of project and/or people management in a client‑facing role.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant experience as an HNTB Client Service Leader or Project Manager on Mega or Super Mega projects in Kansas.
Master’s degree.
15 years practical experience.
6 years supervisory experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
Project Management Professional (PMP).
