Contingent Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The OR RN functions as a key member of the perioperative team, serving in circulating and/or scrub roles, and collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
Preoperative Duties:
Conduct patient assessments and verify surgical consent, site, and preoperative preparation.
Review patient history, allergies, and medication lists prior to surgery.
Prepare the OR with necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Intraoperative Duties:
Serve as a circulating or scrub nurse during surgical procedures.
Maintain a sterile environment and enforce infection control standards.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure smooth workflow.
Monitor patient status, including vital signs, anesthesia response, and safety.
Perform accurate counts of sponges, instruments, and sharps.
Postoperative Duties:
Assist with patient transfer to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
Provide detailed hand-off communication to recovery nurses.
Document all intraoperative care and observations thoroughly in the medical record.
General Responsibilities:
Participate in continuing education and professional development.
Maintain current knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and best practices.
Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations.
Qualifications
Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
1+ year experience in an acute care OR setting.
