Job Description Perform interventional radiology procedures including, but not limited to, angiography, balloon angioplasty and stent placement, embolization, thrombolysis, biopsies, drain insertions, nephrostomy placement, radiologically inserted gastrostomy placement, dialysis access interventions, inferior vena cava filter placement, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt placement, biliary interventions, cryoablation, radiofrequency ablation, and other procedures authorized under granted VA clinical privileges.

Utilize imaging modalities such as fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging to guide diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in accordance with American College of Radiology practice parameters and Veterans Health Administration policies.

Provide consultation to referring providers, including review of consults and orders, determination of appropriate interventional radiology procedures, and direct communication of findings, recommendations, and treatment plans.

Conduct post-procedure evaluation, follow-up care, and management of complications, ensuring all care is documented in the VA electronic health record in compliance with Veterans Health Administration documentation standards.

Ensure patient safety through adherence to sterile technique, radiation safety requirements, infection prevention and control standards, and timely reporting of patient safety events using VA-approved systems.

Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, peer review activities, staff meetings, and performance monitoring activities as required by the VA and outlined in the Performance Work Statement.

Complete all VA-mandated training, credentialing, privileging, background investigation, and compliance requirements, including privacy, information security, and clinical competency maintenance.

Maintain all required licenses, board certifications, registrations, immunizations, and continuing medical education necessary to remain fully qualified and privileged throughout the period of performance.

Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

Current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any state, territory, or the District of Columbia of the United States.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or documented equivalent certification acceptable to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.

Demonstrated technical proficiency in performing a full scope of Interventional Radiology procedures consistent with American College of Radiology and VA standards.

Ability to provide independent clinical care within granted privileges in a high-acuity VA medical center environment.

Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Education Required:

Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Physical Requirements:

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.

May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.

US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.

Additional Information Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
