Location: Lafayette, LA.

Responsibilities

Perform all high complexity procedures in all areas of the clinical laboratory that require independent judgement.

Assist in the blood bank, perform phlebotomy, specimen accessioning, phone requests, and customer inquiries.

Complete all work according to policy and procedure.

Operate all laboratory equipment safely and efficiently.

Ensure specimen identification and condition for accurate results.

Handle routine and stat specimens efficiently to meet turnaround times.

Perform all procedures regardless of difficulty.

Maintain inventory levels and conduct annual inventory.

Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures.

Assist with certification inspections (CAP, JCAH, etc.).

Assist with lab information system (LCDM) training.

Take call for the laboratory/blood bank if necessary and act in the absence of the Lab Director or Supervisor.

Anticipate, organize, and prioritize department work to satisfy customer expectations (TAT, accuracy, criticals, fax requests).

Review QC data and initiate corrective action with the QC Officer as necessary.

Supervise overall training of new CLS and MLT personnel.

Handle situations not covered by written instructions with good judgement.

Reconcile department logs efficiently.

Consult with other lab personnel or supervisors to assure accuracy and efficiency.

Convey information and instructions accurately, positively, and effectively.

Report dangerous work conditions or non‑compliance to supervisor/director.

Evaluate specimen integrity, result accuracy, and validity, initiate corrective actions.

Train off‑site instrument users and assist in instrument setup.

Provide constructive critiques and suggestions to improve lab performance.

Correlate laboratory methods and test results with age‑specific population criteria (neonates, pediatrics, adults, geriatric).

Consistently perform 12 organizational Service Standards focused on values, service and quality.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in science or completion of a Medical Technology Program.

License & Certification: LSBME licensed Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS‑G or CLS‑S).
