Summary Description In addition to the staff nurse role, the Clinical Coordinator assumes shift responsibilities for the care delivery team. The coordinator assists in coordinating the provision of care through assigning and scheduling staff, prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating patient care. Responsibilities include process improvement activities, interdisciplinary team problem‑solving, nursing staff performance appraisals, and staff educational requirements.
Responsibilities
Acts as a lead and resource person for nursing personnel, collaborating with the manager in prospective monitoring of scheduling to assure adequate nurse‑patient ratios.
Facilitates shared decision making among staff and unit throughput to improve length of stay.
Coordinates in‑service programs to maintain or enhance staff competence.
May assist with interview, selection, retention, mentoring, and evaluation of staff.
Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and standards for the department.
Assists with department process improvement and peer review.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree/Diploma required; BSN preferred.
Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.
One to two years of progressively responsible experience with evidence of increasing leadership abilities.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, delegate to others, and facilitate processes.
Minimum Level 6 of the Promoting Excellence Performance Criteria (preferred for internal candidates).
BLS required; ACLS preferred.
Skills Required
Clinical knowledge, critical thinking, decision‑making, and analytical skills necessary to coordinate patient care delivery.
Interpersonal skill for effective leadership of assigned staff and communication with culturally diverse patients, families, and hospital personnel.
Leadership skills essential to prioritize, direct, and delegate to emergency care team members and facilitate efficient, cost‑effective emergency services.
Familiarity with basic database computer software preferred.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to clearly express ideas and techniques.
