Job Description
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for leading all nursing operations and clinical services within the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This role oversees nursing staff, ensures regulatory and accreditation compliance, coordinates patient care, and promotes a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency. In addition to nursing leadership responsibilities, the DON serves as the Infection Preventionist, overseeing the ASC's infection prevention, surveillance, and control program. This includes monitoring infection risks, ensuring staff education, and supporting the facility's Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and direct all nursing services in the ASC.
Oversee pre‑op, intra‑op, and PACU teams, ensuring consistent quality care and adherence to protocols. Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate nursing staff; maintain appropriate staffing levels.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and administrative leadership to support optimal patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
Develop, implement, and update clinical policies and procedures in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Ensure accurate and complete patient documentation and medical records.
Prepare for and participate in state, federal, and accreditation surveys (CMS, AAAHC, OSHA, HIPAA).
Lead emergency preparedness planning and drills.
Participate in all QAPI activities and support data‑driven performance improvement initiatives.
Monitor clinical processes, risk trends, and quality metrics.
Manage the ASC's infection prevention, surveillance, and control program.
Conduct infection surveillance activities including data collection, monitoring, outbreak investigation, and reporting.
Notify appropriate local/state health departments of reportable conditions and regulatory bodies of sentinel events.
Educate staff, patients, and practitioners on infection prevention practices; conduct orientation and annual education.
Provide guidance on hand hygiene, standard and transmission‑based precautions, and exposure control plan compliance.
Review and recommend products used for environmental cleaning, disinfection, and patient skin prep.
Monitor adherence to infection prevention protocols and lead infection‑related QAPI indicators.
Review and update infection control policies and guidelines for scope, objectives, and effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nevada.
3–5 years of nursing experience in perioperative or surgical settings.
1–2 years of leadership or management experience (ASC or outpatient hospital preferred).
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Strong knowledge of ASC regulatory standards, CMS Conditions for Coverage, and accreditation requirements (AAAHC).
BSN or higher degree in Nursing.
CNOR, CIC, or CASC certification.
Experience leading QAPI or Infection Control programs.
Skills
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Effective critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
Employment Type W‑2
Schedule Work hours will vary based on patient volume, acuity, and procedure flow. Typical coverage hours fall between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM; however, start and end times may change from day to day. On non‑patient care days, work hours may be flexed or adjusted to help balance extended clinical days and limit overtime, based on operational needs.
Payment Bi‑monthly (15th and 30th or 31st)
