Senior Systems Engineer (C-17 MBSE)
Sumaria Systems, LLC is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the modernization of C-17 Training Systems. The successful candidate will lead Sumaria systems engineering activities as part of a multi-company team, with primary emphasis on applying Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and established software engineering practices to generate and maintain a baseline of training system models. These models are intended to replace traditional documentation for standard engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
Actively participate in a requirements-driven, iterative‑design systems engineering management process for planning, designing, developing, and manufacturing training system solutions.
Model system baselines in accordance with the current MBSE Style Guide, delivering editable SysML‑format models to the Government. Ensure models include requirement traceability, hardware, software, and system interfaces.
Model systems to the replaceable component level; model software to the product or module level as required, focusing on modules relevant to the training system.
Utilize system models in place of traditional documentation for design reviews, requirements tracking, configuration management, cybersecurity, and engineering change proposals (ECPs).
Participate in System Requirements Reviews (SRR) and Engineering Design Reviews (EDR), helping to ensure all entry/exit criteria are met and documented. Prepare and deliver required Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) items related to system models.
Conduct requirements analysis, partitioning, and traceability; develop and maintain Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix (RTVM).
Address hardware and software detailed design, including module decomposition, interface definition, algorithm specification, and unit test procedures.
Proposal Support: Contribute to bid and proposal efforts, as needed, related to Sumaria Systems Engineering offerings.
Required Skills / Education
Demonstrated expertise in MBSE and SysML modeling.
Strong background in software engineering and documentation.
Experience leading design reviews and managing complex technical projects.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Active Secret clearance required.
Desired Certifications
International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) – Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP)
Object Management Group (OMG) – Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP)
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
Years of Experience
Minimum 8 years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in defense or aerospace training systems.
Travel: Yes (up to 12 weeks of travel/year)
Security Clearance Required: Secret
