The Role Suffolk is seeking people who are bold, curious, innovative, and caring. The Senior Superintendent, Aviation provides overall direction on projects, develops and maintains strong working relationships with owners and architects throughout the project lifecycle, evaluates performance, site conditions, safety and quality standards, compliance with scope, and manages trade partners. The role is also responsible for constructability reviews, logistics plans and baseline schedules to achieve project turnover requirements.

Responsibilities

Oversee, manage, and document all day‑to‑day job site activities including OSHA safety compliance.

Direct field personnel according to the project plan and Suffolk supervisory principles.

Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager.

Report any problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost‑effective solutions.

Establish effective working relationships with clients, Suffolk team members, subcontractors, and authorities having jurisdiction; on union projects, maintain relationships with trade union agents and managers.

Request advice and assistance from the General Superintendent or Project Executive on materials, sequencing, scheduling, logistics, and personnel.

Project Start‑Up / Turnover Meeting:

Identify pre‑mobilization activities in conjunction with the Project Executive, General Superintendent, and the Project Manager.

Develop start‑up schedule with the Project Manager and send it to the Project Executive and General Superintendent for review.

Scheduling:

Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field.

Establish and implement the Project Baseline Schedule based on the project contracts and subcontractor input.

Maintain the schedule and ensure that work performed meets or exceeds client expectations.

Update the Project Schedule monthly.

Provide a 6‑week look‑ahead progress report.

Lead Pull‑Planning meetings and 6‑week make‑ready plan meetings with the Project Manager.

Safety:

Ensure subcontractors participate in a safety pre‑construction meeting prior to starting work.

Ensure subcontractors have MSD sheets, a site‑specific safety plan, and current insurance certificates or OCIP/CCIP enrollment IDs.

Review the project daily to ensure compliance with OSHA and governing requirements, and the site safety plan.

Quality Management:

Insert benchmarks into the baseline schedule.

Ensure Q‑Team members are appointed.

Ensure 1st delivery and benchmark inspections occur per the schedule.

Ensure inspections are approved, documented, and communicated.

Subcontractor and Site Management:

Manage site pre‑construction, job site utilization, and staging plans.

Mobilize the field office and maintain standards.

Organize documentation for easy access and review.

Manage subcontractor performance to quality and ethical standards.

Work with the PM to identify and resolve personnel issues and construction process revisions.

Handle all phases, including documentation, reporting, excavations, and job site utilization plans.

Meeting Management:

Attend project turnover, mobilization, and project coordination meetings.

Chair safety, foreman, and weekly meetings.

Chair monthly schedule review meetings.

Chair Pull‑Plan and Make‑Ready meetings.

Attend closeout and owner meetings.

Chair subcontractor meetings as needed.

Administrative Management:

Complete construction office checklists and emergency phone lists.

Maintain logs and reports of key activities, files, and shop drawings.

Ensure material deliveries quality and condition.

Maintain safety reporting and required files.

Maintain as‑built drawings, drawing log, and revision log; communicate to subcontractors.

Project Closeout:

Manage subcontractor closeout, utilities transfer, owner training, punch list.

Training:

Recognize the importance of training, contribute both in class and as an SME.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in applicable discipline and experience relative to project size/scope.

8 to 12 years of experience in related construction fields.

Industry knowledge beyond generic construction knowledge.

Applicable area licenses.

Excellent team development skills and leadership abilities.

Strong partnership skills with the Project Manager and staff.

Effective communication skills.

Ability to deal with ambiguity and tight oversight.

Excellent multitasking and prioritization skills.

Business judgment to balance budget and processes.

Excellent problem‑solving and decisive action.

Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods, talk or hear, and perform fine motor skills. They will frequently stand, walk, and reach with arms. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will spend time in an office environment and will also walk on job sites.

Compensation Information The expected salary range for the Senior Superintendent in Boston, MA is between $174,000 and $243,000 (annualized USD). Salary ranges may differ by geography and are reviewed regularly.
