Job Description
Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC is a top 100 CPA firm and has been a continuous entity since 1918. We are seeking an Audit Manager to lead and develop client engagements within our Audit Department.
Job Responsibilities
Serves as the client’s first point of contact.
Builds and maintains personal relationships with appropriate individuals at client organizations.
Proactively provides clients with relevant information (industry developments, accounting guidance) throughout the year to create and maintain client loyalty.
Delegates appropriately while considering engagement economics and providing development opportunities for team and self.
Manages and meets the expectations of self, team, and clients.
Ensures engagements are complete and ready for Director or Partner review within the established timeframe and budget, keeping the Partner informed on engagement status and key issues in a timely manner.
Knows the client’s business goals, strategy, and what motivates the client; serves as a valued business advisor.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
People Management & Relationships
Participates in firm activities such as facilitating CPE, recruiting, and inspections.
Trains staff through on‑job training and internal CPE.
Provides real‑time and ongoing constructive feedback (both positive and negative) to the entire engagement team.
Serves as a career advisor when appropriate.
Conducts difficult conversations with clients and engagement team members.
Acts as a role model for staff in client interactions, work‑life balance, and other professional behaviors.
Productivity & Business Growth
Meets charge‑hour and margin goals.
Displays an ability to set and maintain business development goals.
Manages existing client relationships to learn about existing and/or potential needs.
Uses prior engagement history to improve current engagement efficiencies.
Maintains strong awareness of engagement economics and key drivers of profitability; participates in billing processes and financial arrangements.
Identifies out‑of‑scope work and discusses the issue tactfully with the client, when appropriate.
Exhibits strong project management and multi‑tasking skills; meets or exceeds time and budget expectations.
Understands M&J’s service line offerings across all business units.
Participates in internal and external networking activities to enhance the existing COI network.
Contributes to the proposal process: prospective client meetings, proposal drafting, budget development.
Develops and demonstrates strong negotiation skills.
Expertise
Researches, interprets, documents, and arrives at appropriate conclusions.
Applies M&J’s quality standards for self, team, and client; models integrity.
Efficiently works on multiple engagements simultaneously while maintaining excellent client service.
Identifies complex accounting issues.
Completes manager‑level reviews for engagements in accordance with M&J’s quality control policies.
Writes clear client deliverables (financial reports, management letters, Board of Director’s letters, etc.).
Delivers effective presentations and adjusts style based on the audience (client meetings, COI, industry, etc.).
Required Skills & Abilities
Understanding of industry‑specific audit information and requirements.
Solid interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience managing, coaching, and developing staff accountants.
Ability to manage multiple audit client engagements throughout the year.
Willingness and ability to travel; overnight travel may be necessary.
Marketing the firm and its services.
May be required to work weekends.
Education and Experience
B.A./B.S. in Accounting.
Active CPA license.
Public accounting experience.
Office Location Baton Rouge, LA
