Agency Overview Promoting positive human relations among Ohio’s diverse population through education and enforcement of laws against discrimination.
Responsibilities
Conduct intake with charging parties regarding alleged discrimination charges, and prepare charge affidavits and intake interview forms.
Evaluate forms to determine jurisdiction under Chapter 4112 of Ohio Revised Code and define basis of discrimination.
Investigate single-issue and moderately difficult discrimination charges, gather evidence, conduct onsite/fact‑finding conferences with complainants, witnesses, and respondents.
Counsel complainants, interview respondents and witnesses, collect information and testimony, and maintain satisfactory level of production to meet contractual and federal funding obligations.
Handle depositions, obtain documents, prepare subpoenas, verify documentation, and prepare legal documents to investigate unlawful acts.
Analyze case material and submit preliminary information or reports of findings to supervisor.
Operate personal computer/video display terminal to enter, retrieve, and generate reports and other materials.
Perform clerical tasks relative to investigation and follow‑up.
Assist in preparing conciliation agreements, consent orders, and settlement agreements.
Qualifications
Completion of associate program coursework or undergraduate core coursework in human resources, business administration, public administration, liberal arts or related field of study.
3 months training or 3 months experience in investigation methods & techniques.
3 months training or 3 months experience in interviewing.
3 months training or 3 months experience in human relations, public relations or equivalent experience dealing with general public.
3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of personal computer/video display terminal.
Or equivalent of minimum class qualifications noted above.
