The Materials Specialist is responsible for overseeing the distribution of supplies according to established par levels and special requests, ensuring compliance with state board of health regulations, and maintaining accurate records of department functions and invoices.
Essential Functions
Oversees the distribution of supplies according to established par levels and/or special requests.
Establishes inventory minimum and maximum levels for official inventory and holds financial responsibility for them.
Coordinates with all users of supplies in the hospital to meet their needs.
Ensures compliance with all state board of health rules and regulations pertaining to the department.
Analyzes non‑stock inventory levels and establishes control systems to maintain acceptable levels.
Writes, implements, and adheres to department‑related policies and procedures, and integrates hospital policies that interface with the central supply department.
Reviews and makes appropriate recommendations for new supplies and equipment; participates in the evaluation of new products and makes recommendations for product conversions.
Fosters good interdepartmental relations through periodic visits to departments to ascertain needs and solve problems.
Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, and self by complying with infection control policies and completing mandatory training.
Maintains knowledge of manufacturers, vendors, and new supplies and equipment.
Prevents potential environmental threats such as physical safety, body mechanics, and staff identification issues, and reports potential or real risk situations to a supervisor.
Recognizes and responds to emergency situations (Code Red, Code Blue, Disaster Drill, etc.) following organizational policies and procedures.
Reports all safety concerns, accidents, incidents, medication errors, and injuries to a supervisor or manager and completes the appropriate incident report forms.
Adheres to the organization’s policies, procedures, applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
Other Functions
Performs other functions and tasks as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required; a four‑year degree is preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a hospital central supply or material management department.
Licenses/Designations/Certifications
Valid state driver’s license.
