Transportation Maintenance Crew Leader (Signs and Marking) Location:

Plainfield, CT

Job Type:

Full Time, 40 hours per week.

Shift:

First Shift, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

Salary:

$69,829 – $89,418 per year.

Position highlights:

Monday – Friday

Full time, 40 hours per week

First shift, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Location: Plainfield

Mandatory winter overtime (November 1 – April 30) and emergency duties during storms, including holidays/weekends.

Key Responsibilities

Plan workflow, set priorities, schedule, assign, and review work.

Train staff and maintain crew procedures.

Conduct performance evaluations and prepare reports.

Act as liaison with other units/agencies.

Lead crews on snowplowing, storm cleanup, sign installation, and pavement marking.

Approve traffic control patterns and review garage reports.

Respond to public complaints and inspect contract/vendor projects.

Assist General Supervisor with project coordination and inventory upgrades.

Required Qualifications

Residency within 30 miles of job location.

Valid CDL (Class A or B) with Tanker Endorsement and Medical Examiner’s Card.

One (1) year of skilled experience in the installation, maintenance and replacement of pavement markings and signs (interpreted at the level of a Transportation Maintainer 3 for state employees).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience planning workflow, setting priorities, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work.

Experience establishing crew procedures, training staff, and leading highway maintainers.

Experience performing tasks such as line painting, sign installation/replacement, and maintenance of equipment and grounds.

Experience with pavement marking materials, equipment, paint mixing, and proper application methods.

Experience with placement, maintenance, and inspection of all types of highway signs and responding to related complaints.

Additional Requirements

Incumbents may be required to accept assignment to emergency duties including snow and ice removal.

May be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.

Physical and Working Conditions

Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, and visual and auditory acuity.

Exposure to extremes of weather, heavy lifting, dangerous road and traffic conditions, heights, poison ivy, insect bites, and loud machinery.

May be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
