Our client is a growing construction organization, operating in a project-driven, margin-sensitive environment, focused on disciplined growth, operational efficiency, and long-term value creation. We are seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer to serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team.
The Role The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team and is responsible for the overall financial health of the organization. This role provides strategic financial leadership while maintaining hands‑on oversight of accounting, project financials, cash flow, and risk management.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in construction or project‑based businesses and understands job costing, WIP reporting, contract accounting, bonding, and cash flow management. This individual will help drive profitable growth, ensure financial discipline across projects, and support operational decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities Financial Strategy & Leadership
Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team on financial planning, growth initiatives, capital allocation, and risk management
Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with company objectives
Provide financial insights to support pricing, bidding, and project selection decisions
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range financial planning processes
Analyze financial performance, project profitability, and margin trends
Develop dashboards and KPIs to monitor financial and operational performance
Construction Accounting & Project Controls
Oversee job costing, WIP (Work‑in‑Progress) schedules, percentage‑of‑completion accounting, and revenue recognition
Ensure accurate tracking of project costs, change orders, retainage, and billings
Partner with operations and project management teams to improve cost controls and margin performance
Cash Flow & Capital Management
Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital requirements
Oversee billing, collections, payables, and retainage recovery
Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and bonding capacity
Support capital raises, debt financing, and lender reporting as needed
Oversee insurance programs, bonding, and risk mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry‑specific requirements
Lead audits, tax planning, and coordination with external auditors and advisors
Build, lead, and mentor the finance and accounting team
Establish scalable financial systems, controls, and processes
Evaluate and implement construction accounting and ERP systems as needed
Reporting & Governance
Prepare and present timely, accurate financial reports to the CEO, board, and stakeholders
Ensure strong internal controls and financial governance
Support board meetings, strategic reviews, and investor communications
Required Skills & Qualifications
10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior‑level roles
Significant experience in the construction, contracting, or project‑based industry
Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition
Proven experience managing cash flow, bonding, and banking relationships
Demonstrated ability to partner with operations and executive leadership
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving skills
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
High integrity with a disciplined, detail‑oriented approach
Preferred Qualifications
CPA, CMA, or MBA
Experience with multi‑state operations
Experience supporting high‑growth construction companies
Familiarity with construction ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage, Procore, Jonas, or similar)
