The Role The position is within the ENG-WR group of E92 and provides engineering review of Visual Work Instructions (VWIs) and other submarine engineering build authority documents, primarily within the Structural discipline. Key responsibilities include:
Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications for metals, non-metallic, and composite structural materials; perform damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.
Review engineering change documents for applicability and proper incorporation within the build authority documents.
Validate welds, notes, and dimensions for COLUMBIA class submarine construction; apply construction knowledge toward weld validation.
Provide training to entry‑level engineers and participate in development of processes and procedures.
Collaborate with VWI developers, construction trade representatives, and planning personnel to ensure proper understanding of the work to be performed.
Participate in collaboration meetings and use collaboration tools such as WebEx and Jabber; use Teamcenter, NGP, NX, SAP, and 1Tool daily to complete assigned tasks.
Must Have
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
2 years of relevant exempt experience.
Knowledge of submarine technical and build authority documents is preferred.
Nice to Have
Experience as a Structural Engineer.
Experience in a 3D model‑based environment including knowledge of Teamcenter and NX.
Some knowledge of SAP or other planning tool.
Knowledge/experience with welding and manufacturing principles.
