About The Position
We are seeking an experienced
Structural Steel Foreman
to lead our field crew in the erection of structural steel for commercial and industrial projects across the country. This is a full-time travel position with all lodging covered by Gideon. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in steel layout, welding, rigging, and plan reading, along with a commitment to safety and mentoring and developing younger team members.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee steel erection activities on site, ensuring work meets safety, quality, and schedule standards.
Perform accurate layout and ensure all steel members are set and aligned per plans and specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to guide field operations.
Supervise and mentor welders, fitters, and ironworkers — fostering skill growth and team development.
Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, equipment operators, and laborers to maintain efficient workflow.
Verify materials, equipment, and crew readiness before each task.
Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Assist with progress tracking and inspections.
Promote a culture of safety and accountability.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of structural steel experience.
Proficient in blueprint reading, layout, rigging, and welding processes (SMAW, FCAW, MIG).
Certified welder and equipment operator certifications required.
Strong understanding of field safety practices and ability to lead by example.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to train and mentor less experienced crew members effectively.
OSHA training is required.
Willingness to travel full time.
