Renewables Project Engineer / Engineering Analyst (SPC Renewable Energy O&M) Southern Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, seeks an individual to manage major capital and O&M projects for the SPC Renewable Fleet. The role provides technical expertise to improve reliability, drives fleet‐wide standardization, and supports acquisitions and development through risk assessment and O&M contract negotiation.

Job Summary This position plans, coordinates, and executes projects from initiation to completion, ensuring technical, financial, and contractual excellence while fostering cross‑functional collaboration.

Project Management

Lead all phases of large capital and O&M projects, including design, budgeting, scheduling, and execution.

Develop business cases and assess project impacts with the Project Analysis & Market Assessment (PAMA) team.

Manage the five‑year capital budget and prepare invoice reconciliations, accruals, and variance explanations.

Oversee contract administration and service request coordination to secure successful delivery and maintain compliance.

Conduct cost‑benefit analyses to inform project prioritization.

Technical Support

Perform technical analyses, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for strategic decisions.

Create clear technical reports and presentations for management and stakeholders.

Deliver solutions that maximize facility availability, reliability, and performance.

Lead root‑cause investigations of major events and equipment failures with cross‑functional teams.

Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation.

Fleet Strategy & Standardization

Drive fleet‑wide adoption of standardization, best practices, and strategic initiatives.

Develop and implement maintenance strategies that optimize reliability and extend asset life.

Acquisition & Development Support

Contribute to project teams evaluating operational and financial risks for acquisitions, developments, and repowers.

Develop O&M contracts for renewable facilities targeting repower, acquisition, or development.

Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure smooth integration of new projects.

Location & Travel Primarily located in Birmingham, AL, this role may be based at any SPC owned renewable facility. Overnight travel is required to sites across the United States, including Georgia, West Virginia, Texas, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Maine, Washington, California, New Mexico, and Kansas.

Job Requirements Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferred.

Experience

Minimum 3 years in power plant operations and maintenance, project engineering, financial modeling, or asset management (preferably renewables).

Management of multiple medium‑to‑large scale projects from planning to completion.

Contract administration and management skills.

Preferred Experience

Budget development, cost control, and financial forecasting.

Interpretation of operational data (PI or OIS).

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings (P&ID, single lines).

Business case justification creation and presentation.

Regulatory filings and compliance in the energy sector.

Other Relevant Experience

Power plant design and construction.

Generation development.

Utility system planning.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Strong organizational, prioritization, and deadline‑management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Familiarity with asset management systems (e.g., Maximo) and PI or OIS data systems.

Interpret and analyze operational data; prepare clear technical reports.

Read and interpret engineering drawings.

Project management: scheduling, resource allocation, risk mitigation.

Analytical, problem‑solving, decision‑making skills.

Excellent oral and written communication.

Understanding of expense and capital budgeting.

Lead and motivate cross‑functional teams.

California Wage Disclosure For applicants who would be based in California, the reasonable wage expectation for this position is $74,893‑$142,375.
