Key Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Valid North Carolina driver’s license with CDL
Two years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
Five years progressive heavy equipment maintenance required
Experience with heavy equipment required
ASE Transit Certification preferred
Experience with complex diagnostic computer equipment and software required
In‑depth understanding of design, adjustment, overhaul of ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire suppression systems, sensitive edges, tires and transmissions
Experience in electrical, mechanical or related field service; high voltage and mechanical troubleshooting
Experience with CAN networks and multiplexing systems
Ability to prioritize, detail oriented, works amid interruptions
Leadership skills, mentoring, instruction
Strong communication skills, documenting questions and diagnostic information
Physical ability to work on top of coaches and lift up to 75 lb
Flexible, works in 24/7 environment
Clean driving record and Commercial Driver’s License
Passes pre‑employment drug test and background check
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all types of coaches following specific check‑lists, based on mileage and days
Fill out work orders specifying parts and labor
Inspect and verify problems using diagnostic equipment
Cleans, repairs and replaces coach equipment as required
Test coaches for proper working order including road driving tests
Utilize computer diagnostic equipment (Cummins Insite, Allison prognostics, ...)
Review repair manuals and part manuals for assistance with repairs
Perform in‑house and road call coach repairs using hand, power, pneumatic and precision tools
Maintain detailed and timely paperwork and documentation for repairs and installations
Repair, maintain, troubleshoot and service electrical buses and multiplexing systems
Provide guidance and assist mechanics with repair work; perform on‑the‑job instruction to lower‑level mechanics
Inspect, review and evaluate work performance; uphold company policies and safety protocols
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Shift: Monday – Friday, 4:30 pm – 12:30 am
Physical activity: work on top of coaches, lift up to 75 lb, extended standing and walking
Learn and stay current with new technologies
Work with multiple parties for issue resolution; maintain safe work environment; use PPE
Maintain cleanliness standards; dispose waste properly
Perform other duties as assigned
