LPN/Paramedic – Correctional Medicine

Job Description Overview The LPN/Paramedic performs a variety of duties under the direction of the Director of Correctional Medicine and the jail physician. They work as part of a health care team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions. Clinical orders are performed in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide evidence-based care to inmates, addressing real medical needs in a safe correctional environment.
Work as part of a health care team and operate with a high degree of medical autonomy.
Respond to emergencies, render emergency patient care, and use emergency care procedures.
Assist with patient transfers, mobilize disabled patients, and provide care on exam tables and bathrooms.
Follow standard operating procedures of the Correctional Health Care Division.
Utilize radio equipment as necessary and maintain proper equipment hygiene.
Requirements & Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited nursing school or certified paramedic program.
2 to 3 years of experience as an LPN or paramedic in a medical environment.
Valid registration as an LPN or paramedic in the State of Ohio.
Current CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of correctional health standards and emergency care procedures.
Ability to follow specific instructions and guidelines timely.
Skill in using radio equipment and other health care equipment.
Ability to assess potentially dangerous situations and take appropriate action to safeguard self, staff, and inmates.
Sound decision-making under stressful conditions.
Physical/Environmental Demands
Moderate physical effort, including assistance with transfers of disabled patients.
Exposure to body fluids and needles.
Occasional standing/bending.
Moderate to high stress level.
