Crash Assistance Responder

This position will provide non-emergency services to the community that are essential to motorist and roadway safety, such as non-injury vehicle crash investigations, assisting stranded motorists, addressing disabled or abandoned vehicles, providing traffic direction, and special event assistance. This position may be assigned to various shifts, including weekends, and holidays. This is a time-limited position for one year. Essential Job Duties
Responds to non-injury traffic collisions, interviews witnesses, and gathers information from all involved parties.
Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations and produces reports of non-injury traffic collisions
Assists disabled vehicles and provides roadside support.
Directs traffic control and parking assistance during traffic disturbances and special events.
Performs various administrative support tasks and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of work experience, education, and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job.
Experience and Education
Minimum high school diploma or GED.
Work experience with progressively responsible duties in a customer-service, retail, administrative, or professional office setting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Modern police methods and procedures related to vehicle crash investigations
Understand and apply relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the department and Town
Report writing, record keeping, and interview techniques and procedures
Prioritize tasks effectively and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Maintain confidentiality
Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Interpersonal skills such as active listening, being able to understand and empathize with others, and manage conflict.
Demonstrate adaptability and initiative in handling varied situations and working independently as needed.
Work outside and drive safely during harsh weather conditions, including temperature extremes
Have enough physical strength and dexterity to perform duties such as helping with pushing or removing cars from the flow of traffic.
Supervisor responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities.
Certifications Required
Must have a valid North Carolina driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
