The Phlebotomist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment to provide Extraordinary Care for every Generation.

Developed and maintained the highest level of specimen collection standards, including proficiency testing, quality control, equipment calibration, safety protocols and patient identification.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates excellent customer service and maintains a positive, dependable attitude in the workplace.

Assists in the training of new employees under the supervision of a Coordinator or Lead.

Performs clerical duties such as logging into vocera, answering calls and logging specimens.

Collects specimens by venipuncture and skin puncture techniques, ensuring proper labeling and safe transport.

Follows laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing and transport.

Maintains accurate records, including proficiency testing and instrument calibration logs.

Performs preventive maintenance and quality control for moderate‑complex testing.

Adheres to laboratory safety policies, including universal precautions, GHS safety program and PPE use.

Communicates effectively with physicians, nursing staff, laboratory personnel, coworkers, coordinators and managers.

Assists nursing with blood draws from venous access devices and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; preferred College level Biology or Chemistry.

Certification: ASCP Phlebotomy certification preferred; current ASCP or NHA certification required.

Experience: 1‑3 years of phlebotomy experience preferred; proven ability in venipuncture and specimen collection.

Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, proficiency with LIS applications, ability to adapt and prioritize workload in a fast‑paced environment.

Physical Requirements: Constant standing and walking, frequent lifting up to 25 lbs, handling, dexterity, near/far vision and other specified physical demands.
