Rehabilitation Services Technician
Job Summary: The Department of Economic Security (DES), Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS), seeks an experienced, highly motivated individual to join our team as a Rehabilitation Services Technician. The Technician will provide potential applicants who have disabilities with a basic overview of Vocational Rehabilitation services, arrange office orientation sessions, perform initial interviews, and serve clients by informing them of appointments, assisting with vendor contact, and helping them utilize community services. The position may work remotely within Arizona, with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
Job Duties
Assist the counselor with various case‑management activities, working as a team to support clients throughout the process.
Interview applicants and document client self‑report of disability, socioeconomic information, medical/psychological concerns, and general disability–related information.
Maintain client case files to ensure all information is up‑to‑date.
Provide resource and referral information to clients regarding community organizations, private agencies, institutions, inter‑agency groups, and other social services.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding provision of Vocational Rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge of guidelines and best practices of the Vocational Rehabilitation program.
Knowledge of disabilities, general disabling medical conditions, and community resources.
Knowledge of computer software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, internet applications, and email.
Ability to manage caseloads, maintain up‑to‑date progress notes, and provide support as needed.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to establish effective relationships.
Prioritization, organization, and research skills for preparing letters for the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor’s signature.
Qualifications
Experience working with persons with disabilities.
Associate of Arts/Sciences or Applied Sciences in a human services discipline, or 21 semester hours with one year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation program; or high‑school diploma/GED with two years of experience; or three years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Completion of a certificate program in disability awareness, social services, substance abuse, or a related behavioral services field (substitute for one year of experience).
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Subject to a background search of the Child Protective Services Central Registry and the Adult Protective Services Registry.
Must obtain a Level One Arizona fingerprint clearance card before the first day of employment.
Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment contingent upon completion of these checks and the agency’s ability to accommodate restrictions.
Complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
For positions requiring driving, maintain a current, valid driver’s license and comply with all required training and record checks.
