Overview This position qualifies for additional duty compensation based on responsibility for an expanded scope of services, encompassing UFHP, Shands Radiology, and Shands Outpatient Financial Arrangements in the Shared Business Office at the UF Orthopaedic Institute. Ensures the financial integrity of UF Health Physicians and Shands Healthcare by providing managed care, Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, and other third‑party benefit verification, precertification and authorization activities for patients seeking clinic and hospital‑based services, including hospital outpatient procedures and ancillary services. Secures appropriate demographic and third‑party information for new and returning outpatients while creating a first impression through in‑person interviews and advance telephone registrations. Responsibilities include establishing and/or confirming a medical record identification number, account creation, financial screening and analysis, verifying insurance or other third‑party coverage, collecting deposits, arranging monthly payment plans, sponsorship referral, obtaining necessary signatures and support documentation from patients and guarantors, and coordinating financial issues with internal and external departments.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent is required.
College level work including medical terminology is preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a business office, experience with a healthcare provider, healthcare‑related business, or in a related industry (e.g., insurance) with emphasis on third‑party payor requirements is required.
Combinations of Shands‑specific work experience related to patient demographics, Admissions Financial Arrangements, billing and collections, patient records processing, or the like, and with direct public contact may be substituted for experience.
A working knowledge of medical and insurance industry terminology is required.
Must have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, recognize and react to changing priorities, make timely and accurate judgment decisions, effectively communicate with other healthcare professionals, and work independent of direct supervision.
Proficiency in applications as well as demonstrated ability to work with multiple computer systems is required.
EPIC system knowledge desired.
Must demonstrate exceptional verbal, analytical and written communication skills.
Must be adaptable, tactful, and able to work well under pressure.
Must demonstrate an understanding of first‑impression position and the need for appropriate attire, attitude and concern associated with the position.
