Position Overview The Refining Control Technology Senior Product Owner partners with Operational Technology (OT) engineers, architects, product managers, cybersecurity experts, vendors, and technologists to deliver best‑in‑class OT capabilities across MPC’s refining sites. The role serves as a key liaison between OT and business leaders to shape the Control Technology Product Team roadmap for safe, reliable, and secure process control, using design‑thinking techniques such as user stories and prototyping to define features, maintain the team backlog, and direct work.

Key Responsibilities

Build customer and internal‑facing products with superior user experience across multiple verticals.

Ensure alignment between teams to prioritize product roadmaps, plan releases, and align them with business objectives.

Collaborate with Agile teams, stakeholders, and business representatives to resolve issues during product development.

Work collaboratively with R&D, UX, and business and operations teams to align product strategies, gather insights, and plan releases.

Identify product‑related issues, make decisions, and conduct trade‑off analyses to keep development on track.

Prioritize short‑term feature backlog and releases, and manage long‑term product roadmap.

Conduct customer research, product discovery, and synthesize market factors into a cohesive product strategy.

Collaborate with customers to understand challenges and opportunities.

Collect quantitative data and take a data‑driven approach to evaluate viability of product initiatives.

Write epics and stories to support initiative completion; communicate customer and stakeholder needs clearly.

Help manage centralized OT hardware/software licensing.

Coordinate and facilitate OT Lead (SPOC) meetings across all plants.

Collaborate with the Refining Agile Release Train (ART) and exchange ideas with MPC Product Teams.

Build and maintain strong relationships with the Control Technology Product Manager and Refining Technology leaders.

Support Product Team OKR setting, milestone tracking, and routine portfolio updates.

Assist with Product Team financial forecasts and budget workshops.

Support and occasionally lead the creation of product presentations for business leadership.

Collaborate with Agile, business, and OT teams to align product goals, manage backlogs, plan releases, and maintain strategic roadmaps using Azure DevOps (ADO).

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field (or equivalent work experience).

5+ years of relevant product owner experience.

Product Owner certification preferred.

Experience leading OT projects preferred.

Preferred experience across IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology) domains.

Knowledge of refining control system (DCS) capabilities preferred.
