Sr. Maintenance Technician – Ostara Ostara is passionate about changing the way the Ag and T&O industry thinks about phosphate management. Position Summary The Senior Maintenance Technician maintains electrical and industrial equipment, identifies electrical problems, performs instrumentation calibrations, and assists with PLC troubleshooting. This technician is expected to be an electrical subject matter expert on site and assists maintenance leadership executing the preventative maintenance strategy. Maintenance of mechanical systems is also required.

Essential Functions

Troubleshoots and repairs electrical/mechanical issues.

Maintains, replaces, and diagnoses all instrument/electrical components in and around the manufacturing site.

Performs vibration data collection and analysis of equipment, keeps historical and updated database, and reports any inconsistencies to Management and updates CMMS.

Performs balancing of plant equipment, keeps historical and updated database, and reports inconsistencies to Management and updates CMMS.

Performs UT inspections of equipment and maintains UT database.

Performs thermography inspections of equipment.

Installs and repairs various mechanical equipment in a heavy industrial setting.

Uses predictive tools and equipment in troubleshooting and repair processes.

Alignment of equipment – shaft, bearing, motors.

Stays informed of safety policies, guidelines, and procedures at all times.

Trains and mentors other technicians.

Backfills for Maintenance Supervisor when necessary and serves in a leadership capacity on assigned tasks.

Addresses and/or responds to all safety hazards, near misses and work‑related incidents immediately.

Offers suggestions and supports efforts to improve the safety culture of Ostara.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Ability to read blueprints and schematics for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Ability to safely use hand tools, torches, welding equipment, pneumatic and/or electric tools and precision measuring tools to make repairs or replace equipment.

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, electronic equipment and instrumentation to make appropriate repairs, calibration, recommendation, or replacement.

Ability to safely move in and through work areas, including climbing stairs, maintaining good balance, being mentally alert, having good visual acuity and safety working at heights.

Ability to work in and around heavy industrial environment, including moving objects, concentrated chemicals, and transport vehicles.

Desired (Preferred)

Rotating Equipment Experience (rotary Kiln, Granulator, etc.).

Category I vibration analysis certification.

Category I Thermography certification.

Category I UT (Ultrasonic) certification.

Welding Certification: Stick and MIG required.

Prior Lead or experience training others highly desired.

Education / Experience At least 5 years experience in heavy industrial maintenance technician roles.

PPE Requirements

Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, hard hat, steel/composite toe boots.

Occasional use of a respirator.

Other PPE as required per task.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must regularly lift/move 10 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds. Vision abilities include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, airborne particles, chemicals, and temperature ranges. Noise environment is usually loud.
