Electrician
Position at Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC)
Location: Multiple sites across Pennsylvania Salary: $24,396.00-$115,000.00 (annual range varies by location)
Job Purpose and Summary This is skilled work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures at various locations for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). An employee in this class performs skilled tasks in accordance with standard practices of the electrical and mechanical trades. Work is assigned and reviewed by a supervisor through observation of equipment installed, repaired, or maintained and adherence to the electrical code.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Maintains, repairs, and installs electric motors, relays, conductors, pumps, heaters, fans, air conditioners, electric services, distribution centers, breaker panels, card control devices, emergency generators, switch gears, transformers, roadway lighting, tunnel lighting, general lighting, conduit, and associated wiring.
Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits.
Estimates time and materials needed for projects.
Inspects, isolates, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
Operates an aerial lift and works at heights.
Operates and properly maintains systems, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, and prints.
Must be available 24/7/365 for emergency response.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) or a valid driver’s license with a valid CDL learner’s permit; must pass the Class B CDL road test by the end of the probationary period.
No restrictions on CDL or learner’s permit that would preclude operation of required vehicles (e.g., E, K, L, or Z).
Must possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT Physical Card).
Completion of electrical technical training at an accredited technical school and three (3) years of experience with a commercial/residential balance as an electrician, or
Five (5) years of documented electrical experience with a commercial/residential balance.

Frequently lifts and/or carries up to 50 pounds of equipment, material, and tools, occasionally up to 150 pounds without assistance.
Frequently exerts 10 to 100 pounds of force using one or both hands/arms.
Works using hand or power tools while working on electrical systems.
Positions may require working long hours in emergency situations, adverse weather conditions, or for extended work assignments.
Field environment may include exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable conditions; works in extreme weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, in confined spaces, and at heights.
Safety equipment and precautions must be followed in field conditions.
