Job Description Harvard University Housing & Real Estate (HUHRE) supports the university’s educational and research efforts by offering Harvard affiliates a wide array of housing and real estate services in University-owned properties. HUHRE manages a broad range of initiatives and assets to help support the Harvard community, including:
Leasing, managing, and renewing Harvard-owned housing, offices, institutional spaces, and commercial real estate portfolios.
Leading community engagement and programming opportunities.
Managing relationships with external partners and vendors.
Working within the larger University community to develop and coordinate University-wide policies and strategies.
Supporting new University housing and real estate development projects across the Cambridge and Greater Boston area.
Job Summary The Leasing Coordinator is responsible for marketing and leasing Harvard University Housing rental apartments, focusing on the assigned portfolio. The position enhances HUH’s ability to meet the university’s goals for vibrant campus neighborhoods, strong financial stewardship, sustainability, and flexibility.
Job‑Specific Responsibilities
Manage the daily leasing function for assigned apartments, including the annual lease renewal and re‑rental process.
Manage annual tenant recertification for the HUH Protected Program, including income verification meetings.
Manage Cambridge Housing Authority tenants and liaise with the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the City of Cambridge Community Development Department.
Track and monitor tenant arrearage accounts and initiate legal action for non‑payment of rent.
Determine payment plans when necessary and coordinate legal action with the Office of General Counsel and outside attorneys.
Liaise with management staff to address tenant issues, lease violations (pets, hoarding, noise, etc.), and special projects such as new building openings and relocations.
Liaise with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable; participate in the annual rent setting process.
Assist in reviewing and revising Harvard University Housing Policies & Procedures.
Show apartments and tour properties as needed; participate in Harvard University School’s admit days and open houses to promote Harvard University Housing.
Participate in committee and subgroup cross‑collaboration meetings.
Systems Support
Process and manage tenant accounts in Yardi leasing database.
Process leasing related documents: Yardi (Voyager, Café, SiteManager) and DocuSign.
Other Support
Complete special projects as assigned.
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
A college degree (strongly preferred) or an equivalent of education plus relevant experience.
Minimum three to five years of real estate or related experience; knowledge of higher education housing a plus.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Strong communication (phone, written, in‑person) and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused operations environment with multiple projects and priorities.
Multi‑tasking with high speed, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Proficient in writing business correspondence; strong computer skills.
Collaborative team player with multiple staff members.
Handle complex and confidential materials and information.
Customer service orientation, bias for action, high integrity, sensitivity to various interests, diplomacy, advocacy, self‑confidence, and resourcefulness.
Standard Hours / Schedule 35 hours per week
