Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API molecules located in Lebanon, IN. This facility is Lilly’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the site team for the startup of a greenfield manufacturing site.
Project Engineering Associate Director The Project Engineering Associate Director at Lebanon API Manufacturing provides leadership and direction to the Project Engineering team within the site engineering organization. The position works with Site Leadership, Manufacturing Plants (Small Molecule and Peptides) leadership to develop local capital projects for new installations and capabilities as well as recapitalization projects to meet production goals and the business agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver the site capital projects from concept through close‑out, typically $1M to $10M in value, and represent Lebanon API Manufacturing for major capital projects with Lilly global facilities initiatives.
Establish disciplined project implementation best practices and benchmarking, utilizing sound engineering principles, based on Lilly policies and procedures.
Lead both Lilly and non‑Lilly professionals and project teams to safely achieve project objectives from idea to design to execution, construction, commissioning & qualification, operational readiness, and turnover.
Ensure capital project documentation, including business cases, financials, estimates, electronic Capital Investment Requests (eCIR) are met. Coordinate reviews/approvals including prioritization, design reviews and specifications, user requirements, procurement, permitting, etc.
Develop the scope of work, budget, and schedule for capital projects and non‑capital projects as assigned. Deliver local capital projects meeting time, budget, and scope requirements.
Ensure compliance with Lilly corporate engineering and finance policies, actively work with the Lilly global engineering and technical center network to ensure alignment with corporate initiatives and utilization of best practices.
Supervise and coach Project Managers/Engineers to deliver the capital project portfolio. Coordinate construction related activities and construction schedule, working with site facilities, maintenance, and operations teams. Enhance Project Engineering team with engineering and construction service providers.
Work with site and global finance to manage the overall site capital project budgets and tracking of spending for capital projects and provide updates to management routinely.
Engage Quality and Safety to capture regulatory strategy and local requirements and support the performance reviews and development planning of project staff.
Provide project portfolio execution coordination in support of all manufacturing areas and site objectives and provide engineering project input to key functional groups and partners.
Support site governance through participation, influence and leadership in cross‑functional meetings and initiatives.
Help build campus systems and processes to enable full GMP manufacturing operations through startup and beyond.
Basic Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering preferred)
5+ years of experience in engineering and/or leadership roles in project management/engineering in chemical or life‑science manufacturing facilities, preferably bulk API.
Additional Preferences
Experience in most of the following disciplines: process control and automation, construction, quality, project management and controls, safety, process engineering.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent preferred.
Strong collaboration skills, independent decision making, and influence across diverse groups.
Ability to provide innovative solutions to plant, divisional, and corporate issues.
Role‐model performance and behavior, driving performance improvement and coaching.

Compensation and Benefits Actual compensation depends on education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated base salary for this position is $123,000 – $180,400 annually. Full‑time employees are also eligible for a company bonus, 401(k) with employer match, pension, vacation, medical, dental, vision, and a comprehensive benefit program.
