BITCO Corporation, headquartered in Davenport, IA, is seeking a
Sr. Claims Specialist
to join our branch office located in
Little Rock, AR . The position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with required business travel to BITCO office locations and customer sites.
Position Summary This role provides key support in the handling of claims across multiple lines of coverage, with a focus on Liability (Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, and General Liability). The specialist will assess claim coverage, liability, legal, and damage issues, investigate, evaluate, and resolve assigned claims in a timely manner according to company and regulatory guidelines. A high level of customer service to internal and external partners is required.
Primary Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and interpret policy conditions, exclusions, and endorsements to resolve coverage and liability issues for assigned claims.
Prepare reservation of rights letters, nonwaiver agreements, and coverage disclaimer documents.
Assess claim reserves to ensure they properly reflect potential exposure.
Investigate claims, meeting with insureds and witnesses, and obtain statements, records, and other evidentiary materials.
Document and report investigation and claims handling activities.
Negotiate, including mediation, arbitration, or court-supervised settlement efforts, and resolve claims with claimants, insureds, and their lawyers; provide appropriate claims resolution documents.
Maintain knowledge of regulatory and jurisdictional requirements.
Direct and manage defense counsel, independent adjusters, and other third parties retained for particular claims.
Identify and pursue risk‑transfer opportunities, where applicable.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the following areas:
Coverage Review – interpreting policies, contracts, reservation of rights, and disclaimer documents.
Claims Investigation – collecting statements, authorizing expert witnesses, and retaining counsel.
Claims Administration – reporting, reserve review, and compliance with laws and procedures.
Claims Settlement – preparing disclaimer letters, releases, proof of loss statements, and participating in legal proceedings when necessary.
Knowledge of coverage, negligence principles, investigation, and negotiation techniques.
Ability to obtain and maintain state adjusting licenses, as required.
Service-oriented with the ability to provide prompt, efficient, and effective claims and customer service.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with customers, claimants, opposing counsel, defense counsel, and the public.
Excellent judgment, negotiation, and decision‑making capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.
Willingness and ability to travel between off‑site locations or overnight as necessary.
Experience handling liability claims in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
