Overview The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work under the general supervision of their Medical Director, other physician partners, and their APP Manager in WakeMed Physician Practices to deliver competent medical care to patients at WakeMed. This position may involve both inpatient and outpatient care depending on the needs of the service. The role includes managing referrals, consults, patient rounds, documentation, discharge summaries, procedures, clinic notes, pre‑ and post‑procedure care, prescribing, and patient care follow‑ups. The PA/NP will collaborate with other healthcare providers in a multidisciplinary approach and serve as an educator for PA/NP/CNM students from healthcare education programs. The PA/NP must maintain scope of practice consistent with North Carolina Medical Board, North Carolina Board of Nursing, and WakeMed policies, and may require certifications such as Advanced Life Support.

Responsibilities

Complete referrals, consults, and patient rounds.

Prepare daily patient notes, discharge summaries, and clinic notes.

Perform procedures and provide pre‑ and post‑procedure care.

Prescribe medications and manage patient care follow‑ups.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maximize patient care.

Educate PA/NP/CNM students as required.

Qualifications

Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with board certification in the area of practice.

Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant or Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant required; Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Nursing required.

One year of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner preferred.

Additional certifications such as Advanced Life Support may be required based on clinical area of practice.

Licensure Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner and Board Certification in Area of Practice Required.

Education Bachelor's Degree Physician Assistant or Master's Degree Physician Assistant Required or Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree Nursing Required.

Experience 1 Year Clinical – Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Preferred.
