Job Summary Five Star Marketplace is seeking a dependable and motivated Grocery Store Assistant Manager to support daily store operations and assist the Store Manager in leading a high‑performing team. This hands‑on role includes supervising staff, assisting customers, processing stock, filling shelves, and ensuring smooth day‑to‑day operations.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and training new employees

Supervise team members during shifts and provide coaching and feedback

Support a positive, respectful, and team‑oriented workplace culture

Act as manager‑on‑duty in the Store Manager’s absence

Assist with opening and closing procedures

Ensure proper staffing levels and smooth daily workflow

Enforce company policies, safety procedures, and food‑handling standards

Help monitor store performance and operational priorities

Process incoming inventory, including receiving and checking deliveries

Stock shelves, rotate product, and maintain backroom organization

Monitor product levels and communicate ordering needs to the Store Manager

Ensure shelves are faced, organized, and visually appealing

Verify pricing accuracy and signage

Lead by example in providing friendly, efficient customer service

Address customer questions, concerns, and complaints professionally

Assist with in‑store promotions and seasonal merchandising

Help maintain store cleanliness and overall appearance

Assist with preparing weekly schedules and ensuring shift coverage

Support basic sales tracking, reporting, and operational planning

Communicate effectively with management, staff, and vendors

Qualifications

Prior supervisory or lead experience in grocery or retail (1–3+ years preferred)

Willingness to perform hands‑on work, including stocking and floor coverage

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Customer‑focused mindset with problem‑solving ability

Basic understanding of inventory control and merchandising practices

Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment

High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience with point‑of‑sale systems preferred

Schedule

Mix of weekday and weekend shifts

Some evenings required
