Job Summary Perform testing in an approved clinical laboratory technology training program under the supervision of an approved Clinical Laboratory Director. Testing restricted to the area of certification. Perform routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids using a variety of automated and manual instrumentation in a timely manner. Maintain equipment and records according to department procedures and regulatory guidelines in the areas of QA and QC. Use independent judgment to solve technical and procedural problems.

Responsibilities

Working under the supervision of an approved Clinical Laboratory Director in the area restricted by the Certificate. Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure. Monitors specimens to ensure work is completed.

Perform within turnaround time criteria, and track incomplete samples in your area.

Review data prior to release. Work under the supervision of an approved Clinical Laboratory Director.

All data upon release is free of errors.

Reports all panic values.

Reported to appropriate individual or unit within IO minutes of verification.

Maintains quality control data on tests performed, resolves QC failures and documents actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.

Completes task free of errors.

Prepares reagents and takes inventory, and advises supervisor as required.

Completes task free of errors.

Maintains all records of work performed and keeps maintenance logs of equipment.

Completed within defined interval (by shift, daily, weekly, etc.).

Assists with answering the telephone and performs order entry in the LISA system, as necessary.

Follow hospital telephone guidelines. LISA activities performed error free.

May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and may provide leadership for technicians.

Run required RE (remote entry) jobs.

Assists with the training of new employees.

As described by supervisor.

Maintains clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.

Hospital, State, and federal guidelines in this area.

Performs other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor, as and when required.

Requirements

BS Required or BA Required.

Clinical Laboratory Technologist Required.

Certificate to practice in an approved clinical laboratory technology training program issued by the New York State Department of Education, Division of Professional Licensing Services. Practice is restricted to areas approved by the New York State Education Department.
