Consultant, Product Development – P&C
At Nationwide, you will drive digital distribution growth through API enablement, comparative rater integrations, and product/experience enhancements that accelerate new business. You’ll act as the connective tissue between Distribution, Underwriting, Technology, and External Vendors, ensuring high‑quality digital capabilities and rapid value delivery.
Job Summary A critical member of the Small Commercial Digital Enablement team, the Consultant, Product Development focuses on developing and enhancing commercial and personal insurance products, leading projects from planning through execution and driving product growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead new business development and implementation projects, providing functional leadership throughout product design and management.
Develop and implement strategic business rules to support product requirements, reviewing pricing, design features, and processes in partnership with underwriting.
Manage growth and profitability initiatives, coordinating product strategy with sales, agency management, field product, and marketing.
Control project timelines, continually assessing risks and revising plans to align with business strategy.
Analyze market information on competitors, proactively identifying product opportunities.
Coordinate the development and implementation of new product training.
Manage internal and external resources, budgeting, and cost containment.
Provide market analysis tools to regions, completing national product analyses regarding performance and competition, designing forecasting models, and communicating financial objectives.
Guide the evaluation process of new product performance tools and technology enhancements, ensuring rate change and system improvement implementations are effective.
Lead rate review, filing, and communication processes for new development initiatives, coordinating product recommended implementations.
Design and implement state‑level product strategy and communication plans throughout the organization.
Develop cross‑functional knowledge by interacting with claims, sales, marketing, pricing, operations, underwriting, and finance, acting as a mentor to business partners.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships Reports to Director/Officer. May have direct or indirect reports.
Typical Skills and Experiences
Education:
Undergraduate studies in insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, product management, finance, business administration or related field. Master’s of Business Administration preferred.
License/Certification/Designation:
Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ACAS, ARM, FLMI, NASD, Project Management Certification preferred.
Experience:
Six years in personal/commercial lines insurance, financial services, marketing, or communications, including two years of product management experience. Managerial experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
In‑depth knowledge of property and casualty insurance product, analytics tools, underwriting policies, performance measurement techniques, and systems. Strong negotiation, data quality, decision‑making, communication, project management, and leadership skills.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Compensation The national salary range for Consultant, Product Development – P&C is $97,000.00–$180,000.00. The expected starting salary range is $97,000.00–$145,000.00. Nationwide pays on a geographic‑specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role; and the cost of labor in the market.
Location This position could be filled within any of the lower 48 U.S. states.
