8th Grade Mathematics Teacher
A vibrant, student-centered charter high school in Northwest Washington, D.C., is seeking a dedicated teacher for the 2025 school year. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about mathematics and helping students build the strong conceptual foundations they need for high school and beyond. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, rigorous math instruction that supports students in developing problem‑solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and confidence in applying math to real‑world situations.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high‑quality, standards‑aligned instruction in 8th‑grade mathematics, including pre‑algebra and foundational algebra concepts.
Teach mathematical reasoning, number sense, equations, functions, geometry, and data analysis through clear explanations, modeling, and hands‑on problem solving.
Create a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, perseverance, and a growth mindset toward math.
Design lessons that support all learners—including English language learners and students with IEPs—using scaffolds, differentiation, and targeted small‑group instruction.
Use formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and adjust instruction accordingly.
Provide meaningful feedback that helps students strengthen skills and deepen their understanding.
Collaborate with grade‑level and math teams to build cohesive units, assessments, and instructional practices.
Maintain consistent, supportive communication with families to promote student achievement and engagement.
Participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive school culture.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience
Minimum of 2 years classroom teaching experience, preferably in middle or high school math.
Experience planning and delivering rigorous math instruction aligned to standards.
Skills
Strong understanding of 8th grade math content and best practices for math instruction.
Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students.
Effective use of instructional strategies that promote conceptual understanding and mathematical fluency.
Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusivity, and culturally responsive teaching.
