About the Position We are seeking skilled, reliable, and safety‑focused Union Carpenters to join our team for upcoming commercial projects in the Chicago area. The role is ideal for experienced tradespeople who take pride in high‑quality workmanship and can work efficiently in fast‑paced commercial construction environments.
Location: Chicago, IL and surrounding areas Employment Type: Full-Time Union: Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters
Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements
Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
Cut, shape, and smooth lumber and other materials according to measurements
Build window frames, doors, staircases, and frame buildings using raw materials or pre‑constructed items
Lay out floorings, roofings, or drywalls, ensuring they are leveled and compatible
Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively
Collaborate with other tradespeople and supervisors to maintain project timelines and quality standards
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, following all company and OSHA safety guidelines
Assist apprentices in developing their carpentry skills and knowledge
Requirements
Active member of the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters (required)
Proven field experience in commercial construction carpentry
Proficiency in door and hardware installation, acoustic ceiling grid installation, commercial framing and drywall
Healthcare construction experience is a plus
Minimum of two valid certifications required (four preferred), such as OSHA 10, Scaffold User, Lift (Aerial Work Platform) User, and/or Powder‑Actuated Tool User
Compensation & Benefits Compensation, benefits, and working conditions are provided in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters. Pay rates, health and welfare benefits, pension contributions, and other terms follow the union contract.
