Cardiac Surgery Experience Strongly Preferred

Schedule:

Three (3) days on, Six (6) days off with an extra shift every two (2) weeks.

Note:

This position will also have Vascular Surgery duties.

Responsibilities

Clinical – Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests and results. Develops appropriate differential diagnoses. Designs and implements treatment plans including prescribing and ordering appropriate evidence‑based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, and schedules appropriate follow‑up management. Actively incorporates evidence‑based hospital initiatives. Conducts preventive health screening. Maintains clear, comprehensive, yet concise records. Maintains essential knowledge of general disease and pathologic processes. Maintains extensive knowledge of specialty literature. Consistently derives correct diagnoses. Revises the plan of care as needed and prioritizes work to provide prompt and efficient client flow. Consistently maintains high productivity and leads or participates in projects to improve productivity. Appropriately performs medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines and clinical roles.

Education – Educates clients and/or families regarding medical condition, treatment, and follow‑up. Collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient/family‑centered care. Develops educational materials. Provides education to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and/or students. Actively recognizes learning needs and attends education programs.

Leadership – Provides instruction and coaching to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries, and/or students (precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, morning report, staff meetings). Participates in community/network outreach and develops initiatives. Demonstrates understanding of healthcare context and improves delivery. Leads or participates in systems improvements.

Professional – Interacts with patients and families respectfully and timely. Coordinates with coworkers and staff. Responds quickly to meet customer needs and resolve problems. Accepts responsibility for outcomes and shares workload responsibility.

Quality/Research – Engages in continuous quality improvement, identifies and implements processes. Consults with management on assessments, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and evaluating clinical/system issues. Leads interdisciplinary teams. Initiates and revises protocols to reflect evidence‑based changes. Develops new clinical programs or services to improve patient care.

Education Requirements

Completion of an accredited graduate‑level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina.

Board certification if required by the Department. DEA.

Professional Experience Requirements

No prior experience required. Cardiac Surgery experience strongly preferred.
