Qualifications

Master of Science or Master of Arts in Communication Disorders from an accredited Speech‑Language Pathology program with ESB certification.

Licensed Speech‑Language Pathology in good standing for the State of Michigan.

Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech‑Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) or in a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) with 2 years to complete the CCC.

BLS certification required within 3 months after hire.

Updated NPI number and ability to provide social security number for payer enrollment.

Keyboarding skills and ability to use a PC/mobile device.

Prepared for background check and fingerprinting where required.

Flexible to work weekend and/or holiday rotations in acute care settings.

Strong communication skills in English and a sensitivity to social factors.

Physical ability to stand or walk, lift light objects (≤20 lb), and assist with patient movement.

Clinical Duties

Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and discussions.

Interpret and implement referrals; evaluate functional status and therapeutic needs through standardized assessment and testing.

Establish education, treatment planning, and functional baselines.

Evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive, communication, and swallowing disorders.

Screen for hearing issues as part of the evaluation.

Provide in‑services in areas of expertise for the Bronson Rehabilitation System.

Deliver direct patient care per the treatment plan, teach patient skills, and facilitate progress.

Develop programs and participate in department process improvement.

Act as a resource person for expertise areas.

Cross‑train and provide coverage in other rehabilitation departments as needed.

Educate patients and families and set treatment goals.

Perform video swallow studies where applicable.

Administrative Duties

Document evaluations, treatment plans, performed treatments, and progress in the electronic health record.

Ensure documentation meets compliance timelines.

Communicate limitations that delay documentation to leadership.

Participate in process improvement initiatives.

Provide in‑services to the broader clinical community.

Serve on committees and task forces.

Supervise students and volunteers.

Demonstrate effective time‑management skills.
