Department Profile The Hematology/Oncology/Infusion Clinic offers comprehensive treatments for nearly every type of cancer, including consultations, chemotherapy and non‑chemotherapy infusions, blood transfusions, and survivorship care. The clinic has on‑site labs, 25+ infusion stations, and six private infusion bays.

General Job Description

Assume responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Provide nursing services in accordance with the scope of LPN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide and document direct nursing care of assigned patients under supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Assist physicians and other nursing personnel in diagnostic procedures.

Evaluate nursing care with an emphasis on procedures and patient responses.

Assist in the development and implementation of general policies and procedures for patient comfort and safety.

Maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.

Identify clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities.

Assist with control of materials and report equipment malfunctions.

Participate in in‑service education programs and conferences.

Assist in training of new employees.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education

Graduation from an approved or accredited Practical Nurse program.

Experience

No experience required.

Licensure and Certification

Current State of North Carolina LPN licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).

Basic Life Support (BLS) or other required life support certifications.

Pre‑employment physical capacity testing required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the scope of licensed practical nurse and delegation to support staff.

Understanding of patient care and treatment procedures.

Clear communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

Ability to teach patients and families according to the nursing plan.

Use of sensory and cognitive functions to prioritize care.

Fine motor skills and documentation proficiency.

Computer literacy and ability to learn new software.

Proficiency in sterile techniques and special procedures.

Understanding of infection control and safety precautions.

Knowledge of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.

Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking; focus and organization.
