Job Description Summary The CMA/LPN in the clinic reports to the Clinic Manager. The ambulatory clinic performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.

The Multi-Specialty Clinic at Health West is located at the MUSC Citadel Mall location in West Ashley. It is one clinic that serves multiple specialties throughout the week, including Allergy, Cardiology, Endocrinology, GI, Neurology and Nephrology. The team members (RNs, LPNs and Medical Assistants) work alongside the providers of each specialty to care for their patients. Duties include rooming patients, taking vital signs and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, returning patient messages, giving injections and assisting with minor procedures. The position is Monday through Friday (Day Shift – 8:00am to 4:30pm). No holidays or weekends and free parking.

Responsibilities

Room patients upon arrival, take vital signs and health history, and document findings in an electronic medical record.

Assist with exam rooms, including cleaning, setting up instruments and ensuring a safe work environment.

Maintain exam room supplies and instruments, ensuring they are stocked and compliant with OSHA and DHEC regulations.

Assist with scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability.

Triage patients, prepare them for physician exams and procedures, and assist with minor procedures and injections.

Communicate plan of care to the patient, including patient education related to diagnosis and treatment.

Monitor and distribute medication, including samples and controlled substances.

Respond to and triage phone calls and call in orders appropriately as ordered by physician.

Qualifications CMA requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. Must be certified through AMT, AAMA, NHA, NAHP, MedCA, NCCT, or NAHP. Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS certification required.

LPN requirements: Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program, licensed as LPN in South Carolina or compact state. Current AHA BLS or American Red Cross BLS required.

Physical Requirements The employee must perform tasks while standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs unassisted, perform repetitive motions, and work in a latex safe environment. Must maintain 20/40 vision corrected, be able to keep work indoors, and occasionally work in dusty and cramped spaces.
