Job Summary And Qualifications As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Prep and Recovery Unit (CPRU), you will perform direct patient care, plan, coordinate and implement care of the Cardiac patients. You will work with all team members to ensure safe and accurate delivery of patient care. You will also be responsible for providing pre-procedure care and post-procedure care, to include patient discharge teaching/planning.
Coordinate patient preoperative activities including telephone interview to verify procedure scheduled, pre-op diagnostic testing, history & physical documentation, Physician orders, and sedation/anesthesia requirements.
Assess, plan, and implement age appropriate perioperative patient/family teaching and care needs.
Initiate care by proper preparation of the patient for procedure including collecting baseline data (EKG, Labs), establishing IV access, and prepping the surgical site.
Administer medications and monitor and document response.
Monitor patient’s overall status throughout pre and post-procedure care and immediately communicate patient changes to physician.
Provide post procedural care by implementing physician orders for diet, medications, bedrest, assessments, documentation, and monitoring/treating complications.
Requirements Experience
1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse working in Critical Care and/or Cardiac Cath Lab.
1 year of experience in Cath Lab/Recovery experience.
Education
Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David’s Healthcare policy.
