ASC Registered Nurse - PRN Job Summary The Registered Nurse - ASC provides professional nursing care to surgical, endoscopic, and pain management patients, delivering total patient‑centered care through the nursing process.

Principal Responsibilities

Cross‑train to work other areas in the facility; complete annual competencies within the designated month.

Admission:

Greet patient, instruct on attire, complete pre‑operative assessment, document on chart forms, administer pre‑op orders (medicines, IVs), provide pre‑operative teaching, consult with health‑care team members.

Circulating:

Accompany patient to the operating room, assist anesthesiologist with induction, perform intraoperative nursing duties, complete intraoperative record, maintain sterile technique, dispense medications as ordered, supply scrub person with sterile supplies, follow protocol for lab specimens and sponge/needle count, report to RN upon transfer to recovery.

Scrub:

Prepare instruments and supplies, scrub‑in and assist during the operation, pass instruments, maintain sterile field, safely dispose blades and needles, count sponges/needles, advise supervisor or report equipment repair needs.

Procedural:

Administer, manage and assess patient receiving sedation and analgesia as ordered by physician; assist physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes; document patient data to ensure continuity; respond and intervene in complications; provide procedural teaching.

Medication Resource/Float:

Order, receive and stock all ASC medications, including narcotics; utilize Pyxis (stocking, running ASC recommended reports, operating and training); responsibilities also include Admission, PACU and discharge nurse in GI area.

Post‑Anesthesia Care Nurse:

Assess and monitor patient during Phase I Recovery, complete applicable records, administer medications as ordered, readies carts, restock supplies, transfer patient to Phase II Recovery when protocol permits.

Discharge:

Assess and monitor patient during Phase II Recovery, administer medications, complete necessary chart forms, assist patient in preparing for discharge, provide home instructions, discharge per surgeon’s orders.

Maintain facility in a neat and orderly manner at all times; restock supplies as indicated daily.

Check crash cart, defibrillator and medications daily, ensure all equipment is present and in working order.

Complete biological testing and cidex efficacy testing as necessary; complete pre‑op and post‑op phone calls; transfer specimens/cultures to lab.

Comply with Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures; adhere to OSHA and training & accomplishments as required per policy.

Provide excellent customer service; adhere to Springfield Clinic’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.

Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Perform other job duties as assigned.

Licenses & Certificates

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.

CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

Possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances.

Capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending and lifting.

Working Environment Conditions include exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue and contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials. Occasional heavy lifting required.
