General Summary
The Rehabilitation Technician performs a variety of clerical and patient care duties essential to the daily operation. These duties include but are not limited to assisting with medical record operations daily; greeting, registering, and escorting patients; completing set‑ups and clean‑up for patient care; performing other patient‑care duties as determined by the therapist.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies and procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Greets all patients professionally and communicates effectively with patients, families, and all members of the rehabilitation team. Informs therapist of patient arrival and escorts patient as needed. Prepares treatment rooms and areas for evaluations and treatment.
Is timely and punctual in addressing the needs and expectations of the therapists and patients, demonstrating effective time management. Maintains and updates an accurate daily schedule.
Assists with patient treatment as directed by therapist and/or provides coverage as appropriate and needed. Under the close supervision of a therapist may assist with predetermined, well‑defined treatment sessions to include but not limited to exercise program, ambulation transfer activities, functional activities, and ADLs, balance activities, splinting/bracing preparation, wound‑care preparations, and preparation for a swallowing study.
Routinely stocks the linen cabinets and maintains appropriate levels of linen. Empties dirty linen hampers as indicated or as requested by supervisor.
Maintains all clinical supply par levels according to established levels and assists with inspection and labeling of items before placing in storage. Assists in the ordering of new supplies as directed by their supervisor. Informs supervisor of patient and clinical system maintenance workflow and other clinical processes on a regular basis.
Follows established policies and procedures for cleaning and maintaining and calibrating all equipment (mat tables, mats, clinic surfaces, paraffin modalities, hot pack machine, etc.). Cleans mat tables and all equipment after every use. Assists with ensuring that all equipment is put in its proper place and that the treatment areas and storage rooms are neat and orderly. Reports any broken or missing equipment to supervisor.
Performs all administrative tasks and clerical duties as assigned. Prepares the schedule for the next day. Adheres to schedules to maintain efficient patient care delivery. Answers telephones as needed with the correct salutation and a smile in their voice. Completes other administrative assignments or duties as requested.
Anticipates any potential safety issues. Recognizes the need for and requests professional assistance with patient’s condition changes and communicates effectively with appropriate professional.
Participates in meetings and on committees as requested by supervisor.
Minimal Qualifications Education
High School Diploma or GED required
1‑year certificate from college or technical school preferred
Experience
6 months related experience and/or training preferred
Licenses and Certifications
CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 days required
Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
