Responsibilities
Packs, labels, pulls, and stores plants according to variety.
Performs general maintenance of field‑grown plants.
Handles nursery stock and maintains holding yards and shipping areas.
Plants, cultivates, and maintains plants for shipping and resale.
Pots seedlings, prunes, spaces, irrigates, and culls plants to ensure availability of marketable products.
Prepares fields for planting by clearing cull stock, brush, and debris.
Propagates plants from cuttings; plants cuttings, seedlings, or liners by hand or mechanical planter.
Digs, loads, unloads, or transplants bare‑root nursery stock; straightens, ties, stakes, prunes, and shears trees and shrubs.
Cuts, pulls, or removes and mows weeds or grass by the root, not at ground level.
Assists with irrigation, topsoil and mulch spreading, and watering in nurseries and holding houses.
Sprays herbicides and insecticides, applies fertilizer, and hand‑hoes around nursery stock.
Handles mechanical equipment such as power shears, chainsaws, lifts, forklifts, skid loaders, and tractors.
Operates agricultural equipment and works on their feet for long periods of time in bent positions.
Performs work in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 100 °F.
Remains alcohol and drug free while on duty; may not work under influence.
Uses provided vehicles (van, SUV, pick‑up truck) responsibly and may drive on public roads.
