Position Overview The Cobb County Department of Public Safety E911 Emergency Communications Center is the dispatch and call center for the Cobb County Police Department, Cobb Fire & Emergency Services, City of Marietta Police & Fire, and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Department. This role answers and processes emergency and non‑emergency calls, and operates the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
During the interview process applicants will take the CritiCall 911 test, a pre‑employment exam measuring underlying skills.
Essential Functions
Answer incoming emergency and non‑emergency voice and TDD calls, determine nature of call, enter information into CAD and notify supervisors of priority calls.
Provide lifesaving and pre‑arrival instructions to callers in emergency medical situations and remain available while units are en route.
Forward information to appropriate emergency response units or agencies, process requests through GCIC and NCIC, and assist the public with requests.
Utilize computers to enter and retrieve data, sort and file records, and assist callers with transactions and information related to police, fire, and EMS activity.
Identify incorrect or outdated information in CAD, complete update forms and submit to supervision.
Testify in court if called to provide voice recordings or act as a witness for a received call.
Dispatch appropriate agency personnel to the scene using radio and CAD, coordinate multi‑unit and multi‑jurisdictional responses, maintain awareness of available units, and maintain contact with units to provide information and instructions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that demonstrates steady employment or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Applicants must pass the CritiCall 911 exam and be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.

Physical Abilities
May involve moderate physical effort including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, prolonged standing, and lifting or carrying items weighing 12–20 pounds.

Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals.
Ability to communicate orally.

Essential functions are performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
