The Rootle Ambassador Program Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the success and sustainability of the Rootle Ambassador Program, which currently includes 100 volunteers statewide. This position supports the Children's Media & Education Engagement team's mission to serve communities through partnership, access, and engagement that fosters belonging and creates opportunities for all. The Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing PBS NC's statewide Rootle Ambassador Program, including developing ambassador recruitment strategies, creating onboarding and training materials, compiling data, developing a cohort model for cross‑county collaboration, and curating multimedia educational resources from PBS KIDS, PBS LearningMedia, and other educational platforms for community-based Rootle Ambassador program delivery across North Carolina. Additionally, this role serves as the primary point of contact for partners and the Rootle Ambassador network. The position works closely with the Engagement Program Manager, Director of Children's Media & Education Engagement, and Engagement Specialists to ensure program alignment and impact.
Must have a valid driver's license.
This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least three days per week onsite at PBS North Carolina located in Research Triangle Park, NC. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2‑hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Education Requirements : a bachelor's degree in education, community development, social work, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience Requirements : a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in community engagement, outreach, mentorship, training, or leadership development.
Required Competencies :
Program Facilitation : Ability to manage a program in its entirety following established guidelines and standards, or administer multiple components of a complex program. Skilled in defining goals, tasks, deliverables, timelines, tools, and resources.
Data & Reporting : Ability to develop and maintain program/project databases, schedules, and reports, ensuring accuracy of data and compliance with program standards.
Collaboration & Problem‑Solving : Ability to advise and collaborate with clients, program participants, and stakeholders to resolve complex issues. Applies knowledge of program culture, issues, and relationships to address challenges and shares expertise and critical thinking processes effectively.
Analytical Skills : Ability to analyze business operations and/or financial data to support overall program administration. Capable of developing solutions to meet program and project objectives.
Relationship Management : Ability to build and maintain professional relationships to enhance credibility, gain support and reach consensus when explaining and interpreting program policies and procedures.
