What You Will Have An Opportunity To Do The Jr Sous Chef assists in food preparation for assigned kitchen(s) and ensures product quality and service standards are met, delivering optimum dining service to guests. Responsibilities include precise and efficient cooking of meats, fish, vegetables, soups, and other hot foods, as well as pre‑cooking preparation and portioning. The Jr Sous Chef also handles finishing plate presentation, garnishing, and final plate preparation.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items using broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and other kitchen equipment.
Consistently follows portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards, and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
Assesses food readiness using tasting, smelling, or piercing techniques.
Maintains sufficient stock of food products at line stations for smooth service.
Portions food before cooking per standard sizes and recipe specifications.
Maintains a clean, sanitary workstation, including equipment such as grills, ovens, fryers, and refrigeration units.
Prepares items for cooking by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning, and/or marinating.
Handles, stores, and rotates all products properly.
Completes tasks within assigned timeframes.
Provides food prep assistance during off‑peak periods as needed.
Assists Sous Chefs in line operation, preparation, and food production.
Plans, schedules, and organizes staff to ensure proper coverage.
Communicates and enforces policies and procedures.
Attends pre‑shift meetings, reviews, and communicates daily activity information with Sous Chefs.
Assists Sous Chefs in requisition preparation for supplies and food items.
Checks and controls storage of all food items in refrigerators and freezers to maintain freshness.
Ensures staff are trained and equipped to carry out daily tasks.
Maintains sanitation and cleanliness standards.
Responds promptly to staff and guest needs.
Promotes teamwork and motivation through daily communication.
Attends scheduled employee meetings and suggests improvements.
Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
Minimum of months experience as a Jr Sous Chef.
Experience managing high‑end operations preferred.
Culinary degree preferred.
Demonstrated leadership abilities required.
Superior communication and organizational skills.
High‑school diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate.
Ability to communicate clearly in English with guests, co‑workers, and management.
Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.
Attention to detail, speed, and accuracy.
Must lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for 5–6 hours per shift.
Prioritize, organize, and follow through with assigned tasks.
Remain calm and resolve problems using good judgment.
Work well under production schedules and timeliness of food displays.
Handle multiple tasks while maintaining professionalism.
Work well with others in a team environment.
Flexible with schedules, able to work holidays and weekends.
Compensation $21.52 per hour
