$52,234 - New hires with an associate degree or equivalent hours or two years of active‑du‑ty military service

Job Overview
This is the first rank of the Marietta Police force that includes both non‑certified and certified officers. Certified officers are expected to demonstrate competency in law enforcement procedures. Works under the general supervision of an assigned sergeant. Performs a wide range of law enforcement functions including making arrests, issuing traffic tickets, crowd control and investigative work to promote public safety and security, crime prevention and general enforcement of the law.
Responsibilities
Patrol assigned area to control traffic, prevent crime or disturbance of peace, and arrest violators as required
Identify criminal offenders and activity, handle suspects, call for backup, and participate in court proceedings
Respond to emergency dispatch calls and provide emergency first aid until emergency personnel arrive
Enforce state and local laws by arresting violators, keep current on law changes, attend seminars and training
Appear in city, state, and federal courts as witness or to defend charges; provide incident reports to prosecutors and attorneys
Engage in traffic control activities, issue citations, conduct sobriety tests, dispatch emergency personnel and tow trucks
Complete daily shift activity and incident reports as required; document actions with daily reports
May be assigned apprehension and detection activities, interviews, evidence collection, and surveillance/undercover observation
Mandatory Qualifications
Age at least 19 3/4 years at time of written exam
U.S. citizen (proof of citizenship at time of hire required)
Must pass a written entry examination, background investigation, oral examination examination, and drug screen
Must successfully pass a standard physical fitness exam, medical exam, polygraph and psychological test
Must maintain certification in use of firearms
Must be free of felony convictions, domestic violence convictions, or sufficient misdemeanor convictions to evidence a pattern; good habits and moral character
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)
Must obtain Georgia Peace Officer Standard Training (POST) certification by end of test period and maintain annually with at least 20 hours of POST approved training
Must achieve and maintain certification in use of firearms
