Long-Term Substitute Teacher – 5th Grade General Studies

Position Overview San Diego Jewish Academy is seeking a caring, organized, and engaging Long-Term Substitute Teacher to lead our 5th Grade General Studies classroom for approximately six weeks beginning in mid-February. The ideal candidate is a collaborative educator who creates a warm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment while delivering high-quality instruction across core subjects.
Responsibilities
Teach 5th grade General Studies, including reading, writing, math, and social studies, following existing curriculum plans.
Maintain a positive, supportive, and respectful classroom culture aligned with SDJA’s values.
Implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher and adjust as needed to support student learning.
Communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
Provide timely feedback to students and monitor academic progress.
Collaborate with grade-level and specialty teachers to ensure continuity of instruction.
Supervise students throughout the school day as required (recess, transitions, etc.).
Maintain classroom routines, expectations, and behavior management systems.
Uphold all school policies and ensure student safety at all times.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and teaching credential required.
Prior teaching experience, especially in upper elementary grades, strongly preferred.
Ability to follow established curriculum while bringing flexibility and creativity to instruction.
Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing approach with students.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Commitment to fostering a warm, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Daily Rate:
$295
