Summary The

Driver Supervisor

is a crucial role responsible for managing a specific ratio of drivers and overseeing safety, productivity, attendance, and customer service performance. This role involves delivering regular safety updates, conducting driver training, optimizing dispatch operations, and addressing customer needs. The Driver Supervisor is also responsible for safety investigations, departmental KPIs, and supporting peer coverage when needed.

What You’ll Do

Driver Management: Manage daily operations for employee drivers, including scheduling, routing, performance monitoring, and support across assigned territories. Managing a driver employee team of roughly 20 (+/-), at times covering for peer PTO/Vacations.

Safety Compliance: Deliver weekly safety updates and cadence to all drivers, ensuring adherence to both OSHA and DOT regulations. Monitor driver compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), and internal safety protocols.

Safety Investigations: Lead safety initiatives, including accident investigations and handling OSHA‑related matters when applicable.

Communication & Collaboration: Maintain effective communication and partner with terminal operations and customer service to ensure drivers execute assignments successfully.

Problem Resolution: Act as point of contact for escalated operational issues; troubleshoot delivery concerns, service delays, driver issues, or equipment‑related challenges in real time.

Productivity: Drive productivity, attendance and service performance among the driver team. Guide drivers through efficient load planning, route optimization, and empty return or termination instructions.

Driver Training: Conduct driver training and road observations as necessary to enhance driver skills and safety.

Payroll & Admin Processing: Review and ensure timely and accurate completion of driver trip sheets, payroll submissions, and performance documentation.

Performance Metrics: Be accountable for achieving all departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) within the supervisor’s scope (e.g. on‑time performance, miles per gallon, HOS compliance, route efficiency).

RO Utilization: Utilize dispatch screens and assigned boards effectively, ensuring efficient operations.

Peer Coverage: Provide backup support for peers as needed to maintain operations continuity.

Policy Enforcement: Coach and develop drivers to meet performance standards and maintain a culture of safety and accountability, including adherence to all company policies.

Qualifications Needed From the Ideal Candidate

Familiarity with staggered start times and their impact on transportation operations.

Strong leadership and team management skills to oversee the driver team effectively.

In‑depth knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT standards.

Proficiency in optimizing dispatch operations and ensuring effective utilization.

Excellent customer service and communication skills to support customer needs.

Competence in safety investigations and resolution.

Ability to track and achieve departmental KPIs.

Willingness to provide peer coverage as required.

Strong coaching and counseling skills to enforce company policies effectively.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work Exempt/Salaried Role with approximately 40–50 operational hours of work per week.

Available Operation Shifts 5:30 am–3:30 pm, 7:30 am–5:30 pm, 11 am–9 pm.

Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
